How Korean names are written

Hangul is the everyday form of a Korean name. Many people also have corresponding Hanja, while some names do not; the converter therefore does not invent Hanja from Hangul.

When both are known, enter a form such as 김민수 (金敏洙) to keep the two spellings together.

Korean names in Japanese Katakana

Modern Korean names are normally represented in Japanese according to their Korean pronunciation rather than by reading the Hanja as Japanese Kanji. A middle dot separates family and given name, as in キム・ミンス.

When Hanja is part of the name, enter it together with Hangul. The Katakana follows the supplied Hangul reading.
